Krista Reich
Krista grew up in Vancouver, BC on the beautiful west coast of Canada. She’s always adored medieval dress since childhood and found inspiration in historical styles. She studied art history, painting and pattern drafting in college, and began studying historical dress construction, materials and styles on her own. She also became a convert to natural fibres and enthusiastic about traditional crafts, especially fibre arts; spinning, dying and weaving. She later built a small loom, stud frame shed, and much of the family furniture out of peeled pines and spare lumber, but that’s a different topic!
She spent nearly three years backpacking and soaking in the heritage of Britain, where she met husband Neil. They traveled together and now reside in the BC Cariboo region near 100 Mile House. She has been drawing her whole life, with an emphasis on clothing, and has been sewing clothing projects since about 1990, inspired fashions at first then historic reproduction, then back again. She loves doing things the old-fashioned way and using the natural materials that were available in the past.
Neil Pinkett does not presently have a full web presence, due to hosting complications, but can still be contacted through this site. When something come up we will place notice here. At present he has a page at GoBC: http://www.gobc.ca/100-mile-house-travel/neil-pinkett_3809
Why Foliate Face?
A foliate face is one of the four main styles of “green man”, a character depicted in wood or stone in hundreds of medieval churches across Britain and beyond. The face is usually human but leaves sprout from the skin. The meaning behind this character is something of an enigma, and it has been interpreted in a variety of ways over the years, being picked up for instance by the environmental movement as a symbol of our inter-relatedness with nature, and the continuous regeneration of nature. Green men vary greatly, so it is conceivable that there are several different explanations. They often appear near the most sacred parts of the church, yet they likely predate the arrival of Christianity. For further information and images of green men, please look on our links page.

~Hi Krista, The kids delivered a super and entertaining rendition of Shakespeare's Much Ado... They all looked wonderful individually and for most scenes collectively. Many of the girls made kirtles and surcotes with lovely color blends. Thank you for your part in making us look authentic. It will be great to have your surcotes in the collection for the future!
Thank you, KF
